DNA database: security package
As part of the security package, the government has introduced a specific bill establishing an archive within the Department of Public Security to house DNA profiles, which will be retained "for 40 years from the last circumstance that led to their inclusion." The Department of Public Safety will instead have the central laboratory for the database, which will be responsible for "typing DNA profiles and storing the biological samples from which the profiles are extracted." These samples will be retained for 20 years. Oversight of the database is entrusted to the Italian Data Protection Authority.
