The Council of the European Union recently adopted the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) provisions, which apply to crypto-assets, their issuers, and crypto-related service providers and cover a range of services that are not generally covered by existing EU financial provisions.

The rules aim to kickstart the regulation of cryptoassets and crypto service providers, highlighting how important this sector has become in finance.

The provisions aim to bring a broad range of cryptoassets under EU regulatory oversight.
