Legal aspects of autonomous vehicles

It is predicted that the future of driving, and of transport infrastructure more generally, will be autonomous and interconnected. Numerous headlines in recent years have been dedicated to the rise and challenges of driverless technology. When and how the technology will be rolled out will depend, in no small part, on the creation of a legal and regulatory environment capable of supporting this new technology.

PIARC – World Road Association – Italian National Committee presents an international workshop to discuss all the implications that autonomous vehicles will have under the social and ethical aspects.

Experts coming from the UK, Italy, USA  and Singapore, together with members of the Working Group Ethical, social and safety aspects of autonomous driving and TTS Italia will propose and discuss their experiences.

Scope of the workshop is to produce a formal report to be published by PIARC Italia and shared with other organizations participating in the workshop.

Prof Fulvio Sarzana  will talk about Legal aspects of autonomous vehicles – an overview.

What are the legal implications of driverless cars?

Who is responsible when an autonomous car is involved in a collision?

Aside from mastering the technology and developing a viable business case, this is one of the greatest challenges for autonomous vehicle (AV) roll-out and deployment

Speech will  draw attention to the most significant legal challenges that AVs address to lawmakers, insurance companies, consumers, and last but not least, car manufacturers.

self-driving car, also known as an autonomous vehicle (AV or auto), driverless car, or robo-car, is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and moving safely with little or no human input.

Self-driving cars combine a variety of sensors to perceive their surroundings, such as radarlidarsonarGPSodometry and inertial measurement units.

Advanced control systems interpret sensory information to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage.
